Australian Cattle Genetics Export Agency

ILRIC has been endorsed as the Australian Cattle Genetics Export Agency by the Australian Registered Cattle Breeders Association (ARCBA). This appointment was unanimously endorsed by the peak industry body, the Cattle Council of Australia (CCA). The current global environment - with increasing pressure on food safety and whole of supply chain quality assurance, as well as increasing competition from the world’s biggest livestock herds (Australia has just 2.6% of the world cattle herd, exporting nearly 70% of our beef production) - dictates that future productivity gains within the agricultural sector will be derived from increased efficiency in production, greater utilisation of environmental resources through sustainable management and the introduction and dissemination of new technologies. The cattle export industry has largely been focused on the provision of slaughter stock – a singular goal not sufficient for long term market security.

As the world’s most export-dependant beef producer, there is critical need to broaden the industry product base, particularly genetic exports (semen, embryos & live seedstock) and a full portfolio of livestock support products, including management & education. ILRIC, with industry collaboration, will promote our position as secure suppliers of world best genetics, with ability to supply specific genotypes for varying market needs. To establish world markets and focus on expansion & sustainability of export markets ILRIC is the ideal vehicle to coordinate and promote this export sector globally. Livestock production is an important component of the rural sector in developing countries.

ILRIC recognises that this importance goes beyond the concept of economic/financial gains to that of sustainable food security and production of a marketable surplus.  ILRIC is aware and has addressed the canibalisation factor in the export of Australian world best genetics.  The export of Australian genetics does not go far enough.  The value adding of the whole of live supply chain and creation of sustainable livestock sectors and relationships doe; bringing a dynamic, long term growth factor to our genetics exports.

Population growth, local economic development and increasing urbanisation have created a demand for livestock products within many developing countries. ILRIC regards this strong increase in demand for livestock products in these countries as an important opportunity and has the ability to formulate coherent strategies to address multifaceted challenges of livestock production in developing countries.

More specifically ILRIC can offer:

Biosecurity & Export Quality Assurance

The following sites are vital in establishing your capabilities and particular regulartory requirements and restrictions as they relate to individual country requirements.  If listing your stock (live seedstock, semen or embryos) on the ILRIC Salesbarn, you can then virtually take part in the global livestock trade.  The series of steps needs to be carefully followed, remembering that requirements change considerably from country to country.

Biosecurity Australia

Biosecurity Australia provides science based quarantine assessments and policy advice that protects Australia’s favourable pest and disease status and enhances Australia’s access to international animal and plant related markets.

Animal Biosecurity

Animal Biosecurity, within Biosecurity Australia, develops quarantine policies that protect Australia’s farmed, domestic and wild animals and their natural environment from exotic pests and diseases. Our veterinarians and scientific staff assess the risks associated with the importation of exotic pests and diseases of live animals (including aquatic animals), their genetic material and products.

Current Animal IRA's

Animal Biosecurity develops policies which allow for the safe importation of animals, their genetic material and other products. Major policy changes are based on an Import Risk Analysis (IRA) process that is conducted according to Government policy and in a manner consistent with the Agreement on the Application of Sanitary and Phytosanitary Measures (SPS Agreement).

AQIS Biological Forms

  • Application for permit to import biological material
  • Payment and submission advice
  • Application for in vivo use of restricted imported biological material in non-laboratory animals.
  • Application for transfer of quarantine material.

Animex.com.au

ANIMEX is AQIS's live animal and reproductive material export conditions database.

It contains import conditions for live animals and reproductive material for many countries as well as information about Australian export requirements, including disease freedom status, testing and treatments, health certification, transport and the need for permits.
