The International Livestock Resources & Information Centre
Ltd (ILRIC) is a not-for-profit organisation established in 2002 as 1
of only 15 Australian Government Major National Research Facilities
(MNRFs).
It is the only livestock / agricultural MNRF and the
only MNRF located in regional Australia, based at the University of New
England in Armidale, NSW. ILRIC has, as its core foundation, partners
representing around 20 livestock research groups as well as all major
industry groups; breeders, processors and telecommunications suppliers.
It is an umbrella organisation, responsible for providing a
consolidated, integrated approach to domestic and international client
needs in livestock sector development. Through its core partners ILRIC
has access to comprehensive & far-reaching experience in livestock
production, research, data recording, market analysis and education
extension, acting as facilitators and catalysts for innovation and
technology.
The cattle export industry has largely been
focussed on the provision of livestock – a singular goal not sufficient
for long term market sustainability. As the world’s second highest
export-dependant beef producer, there is critical need to broaden our
product base, with particular focus on genetic exports (semen, embryos
& seedstock) and a full portfolio of livestock support products,
including holistic management & education. Australia urgently needs
industry collaboration to promote our position as secure suppliers of
world best genetics, with ability to supply specific genotypes for
varying market needs. To establish credibility in world markets and
focus on expansion of export markets ILRIC, via our network of core
partners and their partners, is the ideal vehicle to coordinate and
promote this export sector globally.
